Ottawa, Canada and Amsterdam, Netherlands – SMATS Traffic Solutions has entered a new commercial deal with TomTom, a leader in global transportation data and mapping. TomTom’s real-time and historical floating car data is now seamlessly integrated with SMATS’ iNode® platform, offering traffic analytics, projections, and visualizations for transportation and infrastructure projects of any scale.
Transportation agencies and consulting firms can now have access to high-resolution and highly accurate TomTom traffic data and analytics through iNode for their everyday operations and long-term planning.
iNode, SMATS’ traffic data analytics platform, is designed for transportation professionals, with access to historic patterns and a real-time look at traffic conditions. TomTom’s data can be leveraged for a variety of use cases such as traffic operations, travel time analysis, speed monitoring, origin-destination studies, and volume estimation. With iNode, transportation agencies can be more nimble and cost-effective in collecting and analyzing traffic data for project design, and evaluation of project impact during and after completion.
The quality of data input is crucial for the accuracy and effectiveness of transportation strategies. SMATS is proud to offer users the benefits of TomTom data, including a high penetration rate, frequent data updates every three to five seconds, and up to ten years of historical data.
Additional iNode capabilities, powered by TomTom’s data, include network-wide speeding detection based on prevailing speeds, a difficult metric to obtain at a network-wide scale. This feature is valuable for road safety teams in identifying high-risk areas, prioritizing preventative investments, and evaluating impact as part of Vision Zero or Safe Streets for All (SS4A) projects.
Another unique iNode feature is its microscopic traffic pattern analysis through origin-destination capabilities. With TomTom’s data updated every three to five seconds, users can create detailed origin-destination projects between selected zones or routes, including neighborhood cut-through studies, to understand traffic patterns for various planning and operational objectives.
Amir Ghods, founder and CEO of SMATS Traffic Solutions, stated, “With TomTom, we’re providing the next generation of traffic data analytics, where big data delivers exceptionally accurate and useful insights that can create safer and more efficient travel without heavy investment in hardware deployment.”
